Characters in the ruleset have dice allocated to roll for certain actions. Virtues and Studies — where Virtues may influence various amounts of Studies (for instance Muscle Mass for heavy weapon swinging).

A solution was needed for those brave characters who want to give something a whirl without any dice allocated to the Study or Virtue. Who just found that TNT and want to give it a light.

Characters will roll a single RISK D6, which if fails will cause some ill repercussions to the player.

Depending on the severity of the RISK dice’s roll, the character will harm themselves in some way. If you rolled a 5 for instance, you may just knick yourself with a weapon. Moving down you can drop the weapon or sprain your arm.

This is the only way, currently, one can critically fail an attack to the point of damaging oneself. Due to the volume of dice the player is pumping out during combat having detrimental fails felt overly clumsy. So we took those issues out of the dice roll and put them in items themselves, which can backfire due to their poor quality, degrade and damage itself or you, and so on. You can still critically succeed, however, by netting all 6’s on a roll (or equivalent for damage dice).
